Tonight on AEW Dynamite, Kenny Omega will speak after winning the IMPACT World Title at Rebellion. Plus, Darby Allin defends his TNT Title against 10 of Dark Order, The Inner Circle have a parley with The Pinnacle and The Factory faces The Nightmare Family in trios action!
AEW DYNAMITE
April 28, 2021, Jacksonville, Florida
Commentators: Jim Ross, Tony Schiavone & Excalibur
The show starts off with Hangman Page making his entrance as he gets beat down by Team Taz on the stage. Dark Order comes in to save him, but damage is done as Brian Cage powerbombs Page on the stage. Page finds himself on the canvas, the teams are cleared, and the match is underway.
Hangman Page vs. Brian Cage
Taz joins commentary as Cage is obviously dominate to start the bout off. The dominance goes to the outside and Cage body slams Adam on the floor. He slides him back in for a pin attempt. Standing fallaway slam followed by a moonsault attempt, but Page gets his knees up.
Cage soon suplexes Page back into the ring for another two count. He later goes for a lariat, but Hangman dumps him out. Page goes to dive but Cage catches him. Adam wriggles free and shoves him into the ring post. Hangman hits his patented moonsault to the outside to take Cage off his feet.
Hangman goes for a Buckshot, but Cage levels him down. Major slam, buckle bomb, and Drill Claw for the 1-2-3.
WINNER: Brian Cage
We are welcomed in a limo with The Elite. Kenny is pleased with his situation, but he’s a little pissed off too, specifically at Jon Moxley and Eddie Kingston for their trucking last week. He however, is not afraid. All of a sudden a horn honks and all of them jump in fright. The driver, Michael Nakazawa, accidentally hit the wrong button. Well Kenny warns Eddie that he’ll be facing Nakazawa tonight in singles action.
Mike & Matt Sydal vs. The Young Bucks (with Don Callis)
Callis joins commentary as Mike and Matt start the bout off. Mike makes it look rather easy before tagging in his brother. Nick tries to get the better of Matt S. in the ring, but he grounds Nick before hitting a stereo dropkick to Matt.
Mike Sydal soon gets a superkick and Matt begins to flaunt his stuff as we head to break.
Back from it, Matt and Nick literally do a switcheroo and referee Rick Knox doesn’t notice. That doesn’t slow down the Sydals. They hit double Meteroas from up top on Matt for a near fall. The Sydals are in control mostly until Matt “Johnny Cages” Mike Sydal in the balls, setting him up for a BTE Trigger for the W.
WINNERS: The Young Bucks
Out come Daniels and Kazarian. They stand here, right now, undefeated and they’re the biggest threat to Matt and Nick. Daniels says he was looking forward to fighting his friends, but now all he sees are overdressed bitches. Now he just wants to take those titles. They’re gonna make AEW a better place without them in it.
Jade Cargill isn’t about managers getting a cut of her take as she notes some suitors are vying for her in-ring talents. She’s that bitch.
Orange Cassidy vs. Penta El Zero M
Orange goes for the pockets, but Penta “ZM’s” him in several flamboyant ways. Orange throws his glasses which Trent doesn’t catch. He shin kicks and does an arm drag with his hands in his pockets before kipping up.
Orange goes for the Beach Break, but Penta nails him with a tilt-a-whirl backbreaker. Orange catches Penta in a crucifix for a near fall (but not before Penta bites his thumb). Orange tries to dive on top of Penta but the Lucha Brother catches him in an impressive press and holds him up with one arm before crashing him onto the apron. We head to break.
Back from it, Penta is in control and hits a big time front face kick to Cassidy. Cassidy fires back and goes for his swinging DDT, but Penta pounds him down with a brain buster and a pin attempt.
Orange goes for his Orange Crush, but Penta catches him with a package leg piledriver for a near fall. Penta goes for an arm breaker, but Cassidy powers his way to his pocket to free himself. Thrust kicks are traded. Orange goes for an Orange Crush again, but is thrust kicked and destroyer-ed. Orange turns that momentum into a Beach Break, but in his pin attempt, Penta’s shoulders show light. Penta soon recovers and stomps some mudholes before delivering a running thrust kick in the corner.
Cassidy nails a Stun Dog Millionaire and then a Diving DDT from up top. He then hits his spinning DDT. 1-2-no. Abraham gets on the mic but Cassidy flings him in the ring. Penta gives him a shot to the midsection and goes for his package piledriver, Orange reverses, Trent hands him the microphone and he uses it to Orange Crush Penta. 1-2-3.
WINNER: Orange Cassidy
Does Britt Baker ever lie? No. She made it to the top of the rankings. She tells all this to Tony Schiavone earlier in the day. “Shida later.”
Present time Tony is in the ring to introduce The Pinnacle. The Inner Circle come out with security on motorcycles. Tony runs down the War Games rules and talks about getting the coin toss underway. Shawn Spears says their isn’t going to be a coin toss. This isn’t going to end well for the IC, says Spears. He challenges Sammy Guevara, asking him when is the last time he wrestled. He says he’s going to be the guy to step on his head when he’s drowning. Sammy doesn’t believe him. Ever since he’s came into AEW he’s been a failure. Come to think of it, he was a failure where he used to work too. He’s gonna fail on May 5 too. Sammy says he’ll start the whole bout. Therefore, Pinnacle wins the parley. Cash and Dax run down Santana & Ortiz, calling them soft lap dogs of Jericho. Dax says they’re in his world now. He mentions both of their families. Tell your kids, “Daddy ain’t coming back home.” Ortiz settles Santana down, but he tells FTR that his hands are going to do the talking. MJF calms it down and wants to tell Chris “thank you.” He says without Jericho, there is no AEW. You were the top guy, draw and bridge for the lapsed fan to come to AEW. He’ll give it to him that he brought in the best group in wrestling in the IC. However, he can’t imagine the pressure he’s under. If Jericho doesn’t hit a homer every time, he’s taking food out of his colleagues’ mouths. He looks tired. He’s gonna to Chris a favor. He’s gonna take that heavy burden of a crown off him. When Blood and Guts is all said and done, he will once again utter the two words: “Thank you. You’re spot’s mine.”
Jericho calls him a little prick. You want a spot? You gotta earn it. He said that MJF was damn right he was curtain jerking in WCW at 25. But even before that he was headlining shows across the world and that’s where he learned respect. A good way for MJF to earn that is by beating him at Blood and Guts, but that’s not going to happen because IC is blood and guts. He credits his team members for standing by him and defending him all the way through. He tells MJF that they’re going to have to kill them to make them surrender. Summer starts early for Pinnacle on May 5.
Michael Nakazawa is sitting in the ring like a tech goof. Out comes Eddie Kingston who says he’s not doing this. He calls out Kenny Omega. Kenny says this is not how it works. He says they’re sending the goons after him. Nak hits him with his laptop. Eddie swiftly fights back with some elbows and an exploder suplex before nailing his spinning backfist. Eddie wedges the chair on Nak’s leg. He tells Kenny to get in the ring or he’s gonna break his ankle. He tells Eddie to be his guest go ahead. But he just doesn’t have one goon. He calls on Brandon Cutler, but Brandon comes tumbling out and his followed by Mox who hammers Kenny in the back. He and Eddie then wedge Omega’s leg in the chair and threaten his ankle. Don settles them down and tells them he’ll make whatever deal they want. Mox requests a tag match against Kenny and Nak next week. Callis says they got it.
Schiavone is backstage with Taz. With Cage beating Hangman, that makes Team Taz #1. He notes how much Hobbs kicked Christian Cage’s ass before he got lucky. In comes Christian. He says back in the day he talked a big game and backed it up. Now he just talks a big game and surrounds himself around with ass kickers. He won’t allow Taz to leech off him either. He tells Taz he doesn’t believe win or lose he believes in win or learn.
Penelope Ford vs. Kris Statlander
Statlander power presses Penelope and despite a brief hiccup, Kris keeps control and even bops Penelope before forearm smashing her. Penelope does catch Kris on the apron as we head to picture in picture.
Back from it, the two women are having a slugfest. Statlander gets the better of it and hits two driving uppercuts before hitting knee to the head on Penelope. Blue thunder bomb for a near fall by Kris. She goes for another knee strike, but Ford suplexes her down. Ford hits a blockbuster from up top for a two count. Roundhouse by Statlander. She hits her Solar Eclipse flip slam for a near fall. Penelope hits a back kick and almost has Statlander down for a three count.
Penelope goes for a handspring attack but Statlander hits her Big Bang Theory tombstone for the W.
WINNER: Kris Statlander
We see 10 talking about the significance of the TNT Title and what it would mean to him to win the belt in honor of Brodie Lee.
The Factory (Nick Comoroto, QT Marshall and Aaron Solow) vs. The Nightmare Family (Dustin Rhodes, Billy Gunn and Lee Johnson)
The Factory pull up to Daily’s Place in Cody’s tour bus. Nightmare Fam don’t waste any time as they brawl it out with their opponents. Bout starts off with Billy and Solow. Billy’s ribs are taped and Solow gives him a shot before tagging in Nick. The powerful men stays on top of the veteran. He wraps his arms around Billy’s taped ribs, but Billy does tag in Dustin. He tries to take nick off his feet, but Comorato shoulder tackles him down. We go to pic-in-pic.
Back from it, Lee Johnson is the man with the hot tag as he takes it to Solow. Blue Thunder Bomb almost gets the W, but Comorato breaks it up. QT gets flipped over the top by Lee as he corkscrew dives on top of him. Anthony Agogo gives Lee and Billy both liver shots. QT sneaks over and gets the pin.
WINNERS: The Factory
Post-match, Comorato hits Dustin with the bull rope and The Factory celebrate. Austin and Colten Gunn come out to attack QT. They dropkick him out as The Factory come back out to brawl with the brothers. QT heads to Cody’s bus and who pops out but the owner of it to beat him up. QT however gouges the eyes of Cody and escapes. QT climbs on top of the bus and Cody catches him to put him in the figure four. QT visually taps like a drunk man. Tony Khan just makes it official: Cody Rhodes vs. QT Marshall next week. They also announce that Jon Moxley vs. Yuji Nagata for the IWGP United States Title.
We cut to Kip Sabian. He says everything is fine as he walks in to confront Miro. It doesn’t go well as Miro beats the hell out of him. He punches him in a locker and then smashes his wrist in the door before he hugs him and “forgives” him.
TNT Championship
10 (with Dark Order) vs. Darby Allin (c) (with Sting)
Collar and elbow start it off. The two men meet head-to-head. Another lock-up. 10 powers Darby up top before walking back and letting Darby back down to the canvas. Side headlock by Darby. 10 begins to show some power with hammer throws to Darby in the corner. Darby does chop block 10 to his braced knee. 10 however, shoulder blocks Darby down. We go to break.
Back from it, Darby counters a gorilla press into a lateral press for a near fall, but 10 downs him hard with a big spinebuster. He follows that up with a single arm powerbomb. Two count. JR notes that if Darby wins tonight, he beats Cody in record title defenses of the TNT Title. Stunner into fujiwa armbar to 10. He rolls through to keep leverage. 10 makes it to the ropes. Darby later steps on the hand of 10 while up top before Allin dives onto he and 5 onto the outside. Stings stands strong against Dark Order who does not attack him. Ethan Page comes out and slams Darby’s head into the corner. He throws him back in the ring. Darby is busted open and 10 is conflicted. He wheelbarrow Germans Darby for a very near fall.
Darby goes for 10’s mask, but 10 locks him in a full nelson. As he fades Darby utilizes the corner to roll on top of 10 for the 1-2-3.
WINNER and STILL TNT Champion: Darby Allin
Post-match, 10 helps Darby up before he takes 10’s Brodie band and holds it up to honor the late Lee. The two men embrace. Not long after, Ethan Page and Scorpio Sky come out to attack Darby and Sting. They attack their legs and out comes Archer and 10 to send the bad guys hightailing.
