Riho may be making her way back soon to AEW after a long hiatus from the company. The Joshi star has been in Japan not long after the COVID-19 pandemic started in March of last year and Dave Meltzer is reporting that her All Elite return could be on the horizon.
According to Meltzer in his latest Wrestling Observer Newsletter, AEW is working on getting her back into the company fold. Stardom, the promotion she primarily works for in Japan, has not been using her in the last few weeks and her release was revealed before the turn of the year. Meltzer notes that she could be back in AEW by early February after following both the United States and Japan’s COVID-19 protocol.
Riho would be returning at the right time as just this past week on AEW Dynamite a Women’s World Title Eliminator Tournament was announced to determine the number one contender for the belt. Riho, being the company’s first ever Women’s Champion, would be an extremely appropriate contestant in the bracket. Her 133 day reign ended against Nyla Rose on the February 12 episode of Dynamite. We last saw her in AEW on March 18. Since then, Hikaru Shida has been on a lengthy run, making her the longest holder of the strap in the company’s short history.
