We are back with another ROH review! Although the Texas residency seems to be coming to an end we still have a couple of episodes left. This was headlined by Guevara’s in-ring return as well as Ishii making an appearance on ROH TV! So let’s review another episode of ROH!
Dark Order (Alex Reynolds and John Silver) vs Sammy Guevara and Dustin Rhodes:
It is too early to make an opinion of Guevara in ROH, but one thing is for sure the man bun has to go. To me, his hair just looks awkward on top of his head and it just looks out of place. Regardless, Dark Order is fully invested in this heel turn as Uno hits Rhodes with a chair halfway through this match to try and help his team get the win. Guevara was able to chase Uno into the back so they did not have these cheating efforts throughout the entire match. Guevara was able to pick up the win for his first match in five months alongside Rhodes. This partnership is interesting and I am intrigued to see where they go from here.
Winners: Sammy Guevara and Dustin Rhodes
Emergency MEM:
Athena pulls Starkz into a private room and asks to speak with her in private. She says she is disappointed that Starkz was not able to get the job done at Supercard and what she is about to do hurts her more than she thought it would. Athena takes away Starkz’s MIT diploma and says she is back in Minion Training until further notice. Red Velvet and Queen Aminata interrupt and make fun of Starkz and Athena. Aminata challenges them to a tag team match which Starkz says is not fair, but reluctantly they accept.
Taya Valkyrie vs Hyan:
Our first squash of the night. Sigh.
Winner: Taya Valkyrie
Maria Kanellis Promo:
As Kanellis was about to give an update on Cole Karter Angelico and Serpentico interrupted. Serpentico wants one more match for his green mask. Garrison says that they can do the match, but Angelico is banned from ringside. To add more fuel to the fire Kanellis says that if Serpentico loses then he has to unmask for the rest of his career. Serpentico accepts.
ROH Tag Team Championships: The Kingdom (Mike Bennett and Matt Taven) vs The Infantry (Carlie Bravo and Shawn Dean):
When there is only one championship match on the show, it should be the main event and I do not understand why this match was not the main event of the episode. The one thing I hated about this match was the ending. The Infantry has had multiple title shots, so it seems like if you put the titles on them now it may be too late. This should have been a clean finish with the team that is on ROH TV nearly every week winning.
Winners: “And Still” The Kingdom (Mike Bennett and Matt Taven)
STP Promo:
Lee Moriarty says that their feud with Top Flight and Action Andretti has been going on for too long. Moriarty says the next time he and Andretti step into the ring it should be for the Pure Championship. Taylor calls out Top Flight and says he does not understand why they have a problem with him, but the next time they step into the ring it is going to be over for Top Flight.
The Outrunners (Turbo Floyd and Truth Magnum) vs Stephen Wolf and Barrett Brown:
Another squash. Sigh.
Winners: The Outrunners (Turbo Floyd and Truth Magnum)
Robbie Eagles vs Darian Bengston:
This was a fun match that took a lot of time. I love that ROH continuously shows the New Japan partnership by having so many of their wrestlers show up. Eagles had a great showing and he got a great reception from the crowd. He was able to get win and he said that this is not the last that we see of him in ROH.
Winner: Robbie Eagles
Tony Nese vs Tomohiro Ishii:
I was so surprised that they got Ishii on an episode of ROH, but I am not complaining. This was the match of the episode, by a long shot. Mark Sterling cut a promo beforehand calling out the Conglomeration and saying that they are no match for the Varsity Athletes. Ishii got the win in a fairly competitive match-up.
Winner: Tomohiro Ishii
Johnny TV vs Fuego Del Sol:
Love seeing Fuego on ROH more often. Would have loved to see him win this one, maybe next week!
Winner Johnny TV
Queen Aminata and Red Velvet vs Billie Starkz and Athena:
I would have saved this match for next week, but regardless. This was also a great match as all four of these women proved why they are the heart and soul of ROH. Starkz was able to get on Athena’s good side after this match since she got the win. I am excited to see where this storyline goes from here as the seeds seem to be planting for another Athena and Billie Starkz match.
Winner: Billie Starkz and Athena
